The Hacienda San José is a Luxury Collection Hotel, belonging to Starwood group. Located in the northern Yucatan peninsula, this plantation house is a well kept secret quite close to Chichen Itza and Merida. This 18th century hacienda has been rescued from ruins and restored to reflect the Yucatan culture. Everything has been made in a relaxing mind. If you are looking for serenity and calm, you are at the right place.
To get there is a little adventure. If you rent a car, be prepared to drive on a small road full of holes ! But trust me, it worths it.
You will enter the property by an old door and discover a tropical greenery and flora.
Pathways surrounded by palm trees and exotic flowers will guide you to your room.
A peaceful swimming pool
Historical stairs will guide you to a hidden and peaceful outdoor swimming pool.
Guests of the hacienda are mainly couples or honeymooners. The atmosphere of this luxury hotel is so peaceful and quiet. Perfect for a romantic retreat.
Confortable loungers on one side of the pool will greet you to enjoy mexican sun or delightful shadow. On the other side you will admire lush vegatation with colorful flowers. A jacuzzi Inside the pool will offer you one of the most relaxing experience under the sun.
If you are tired of tanning, take a nap on the hammock hung up just over the refreshing water. The best way to sleep in the Mayan style !

Be pampered at the Mayan Spa
We were offered at our arrival a 10 minutes foot massage to enjoy during our stay. Of course we would not miss it ! But this will definitly be not enough. This Luxury spa is well known for Mayan treatments among all other traditional massages. The masseuses are hired from local towns in the neighbourhood and expertly trained by the Hacienda Foundation. Treatments are inspired from Mayan techniques and elaborated with 100 % natural and organic products. Aloe vera and avocado will perfectly moisturize and smooth you skin after the sun...
You will first wait in this elegant outdoor living aera. The exotic high ceiling and its wooden beams keep you connected to nature even though you are in a luxury hotel.
Then, you will be greeted by a very kind masseuse who will guide you to a small red terracota house. I falled in love with the outdoor bathtube made with raw material.
For those who wants to enjoy their massage outside to feel fresh air and little wind on their skin, you can also order your treatment in a lovely ourdoor gazebo. This elegant gazebo with white and pure curtains made for your intimacy is actually a traditional Mayan palapa.
Mexican Guestrooms
Large bedrooms with high ceilings evoke the splendour of past eras. Wooden beds, beams and fan will offer you an authentic mexican experience that takes you back in time. However, all modern facilities you might need will be here to optmise your confort. (wifi, iPhone dock station, air conditionning, etc...)
Double wooden doors will lead you to an amazing bathroom built around an old and impressive tree. An external bathtub surrounded by nature in a tropical garden will offer you a private bathing experience. Keep in mind you are in the jungle, don't be afraid to meet some little critters !
Because mexican natives know how to relax, take time and enjoy life, you will find once again a hammock at the entrance of your room. Is there a better way to enjoy a tequila while you are waiting for your wife getting dressed up and primping ? :)

Restaurant San José
Formerly in the factory of the hacienda, the restaurant takes place nowadays in a colonnated terrace. Diner will be served on intimate tables under candlelights.
Lucky couples will choose a table set up around a beautiful old tree with exposed roots. If you are thinking about your proposal, ask for this table ! Another possibility is to set up a table in a complete isolated area, next to the Spa for exemple. I remember seeing this table when I left the room for dinner but realized I was not the lucky one !! :(
Mexican and international dishes are served in the restaurant. But what I will remember the most is the kindness of the staff. My boyfriend was suffering from a painful stomack ache (Nothing to do with the food of the restaurant, he was just subject to this kind of pain when abroad). Not allowed to give me medecines, they offered me towels and boiled water from the coffee machine to relief him. In the meanwhile, they were preparing without telling me a special Mayan tisane. A grandma recipe to help for digestion, what a kind gesture !
