Aliya Resort & Spa, Sigiriya, the perfect spot to chill after climbing the Rock !

Sigiriya Lion's Rock deserves a little effort to reach its top and climb its 1200 steps. Traveling through Sri Lanka to discover all its mervels means also spending few hours on the road. This is why it is deeply essential to grant you a little time to rest to enjoy even more what the country has to offer. Aliya Resort & Spa in Sigiriya is one of the luxury hotels of the country that will provide a precious break.

Only 15 minutes drive from Lion's Rock, Aliya Resort & Spa in Sigiriya is nestled among the lush greenery of fields and jungle.

Aliya Resort & Spa is quite a modern property, with a dominance of white and grey to give certain purity style to its decoration. The lobby is very spacious, wide opened to the exterior with a plunging view on the pool. Amazing graphic elements representing majestic elephants deep you into the jungle atmosphere.

The main interest of the hotel is of course the generous pool offering a direct view on the rock. Water temparature is really cool and the swimming pool is not to deep, the main goal of the pool being to relax yourself. Lots of waiters are at your diposal to bring you a refreshing cocktail and some snacks. Enjoy !

Rooms are a bit away from the restaurant and the pool, which requires a few minutes walk, but at least you are sure to be in a quiet atmosphere. Rooms are in modern grey buildings in a huge green garden.

The rooms are very spacious, offering a balcony on the nature, and are quite white and empty to match with the purity style of the resort. Bathrooms offer very good quality amenities along with a spacious shower and bathtub. Once again, your night will be in company of few elephants :)

Breasfast is buffet style, quite generous with enough diversity but this is what you are expecting from a 5 stars resort. Aliya Resort & Spa offers 4 restaurants, one of them is more jungle style and requires a reservation. We chose instead to have diner in the closest village where you can also enjoy ayurveda messages much cheapers than is resorts.

The only thing we regreted from the resort is the lack of interaction with the staff. We used to stay in smaller properties in Sri Lanka, where the kindness and the devotion of the staff to make your stay very pleasant is a real plus. I guess the number of rooms and the size of the property makes it more difficult and a bit more impersonal. However, these small properties still have some difficulties to reach international tourism standards, which was not the case at Aliya Resort & Spa. We did not miss anything and did not have to request to the staff to fix it.
Nevertheless, we really enjoyed the infrastructures which enabled us to relax and evacuate the healthy tiderness of a trip.

Room rate was around 130 € per night in July, which is good value for money.

The area offers also an easy access to different points of interest, this is why Aliya Resort & Spa is a hotel where you can spend easily few nights : Dambulla Rock cave temple, Lion's Rock, Kaudulla National Park, Polonnaruwa and Minneriya National Park.
