Passikudah is a nice spot if you want to rest a bit from traveling across Sri Lanka. Beaches are white sand and water temperature around 29° is so warm that not relaxing is impossible ! Passikudah is full of hotels and resorts and are more expensive than the average of the rest of the country. However, we decided to go for Sunrise by Jetwing. We thought rates were still acceptable compared to other available hotels. Have a look.
Tourism in Sri Lanka is still developing and you will not find all inclusive resorts that you can be used to find along any beautiful beach of Carribeans for exemple. Which I think is quite better as finally quality is often left on the sidelines in this kind of properties. Globally speaking, all inclusive resorts are not a majority in Asia, preserving quality and service, which we appreciate a lot and helps Asia to differentiate itself from other exotic destinations.
Even though Sunrise by Jetwing is not an all incluse resort, it gave us the feeling to be in a sort of resort with buffet style for breakfast and diner. I am not a huge fan of buffet as quality is usually below my expectations but I can say the buffet at Sunrise by Jetwing was really ok with enough choice but not too much and some canapes to make it more elegant. If you want to avoid the buffet style, the restaurant offers also an A la carte menu. The restaurant is alongside the swimming pool, which makes it quite pleasant.
In terms of service, the staff was really helpful, even though they do not always understand what you are saying, but they are always trying to help and smiling. Their constant smile enables to forgive any lack of efficiency :) Keep in mind that tourism in Sri Lanka is less developped in comparison to other destinations such as Bali and Thailand. They are still learning and adjusting, we need to be tolerant.
The swimming pool is quite big and is the longest of Sri Lanka. No excuse not to do some lenghts after digestion ! One of the negative points is that sunbeds are really missing at the swimming pool and on the beach. There are really fews only and some hammocks on the beach, which means that if you do not take one early in the morning, you will have to seat down on the floor. This is one point they need to improve.

Regarding bedrooms and common areas, they are really correct, matching with what you usually find in a resort. Decoration is nice, materials are quite good quality. Rooms are nice and clean but would need a bit more character. The lobby offers also a playing area and games for adults and children some of them are local which can be a funny discovery. As night arrives quite early in July, this area is nice to spend a little time before or after diner.
To sum up, the stay at Sunrise by Jetwing in Passikudah was quite pleasant and relaxing. We mainly enjoyed the swimming pool and the beach, our goal was reached !
One of the best resort of Passikudah is also the Maalu Maalu resort, but be careful, rates are more expensive and the hotel is more easily fully booked.
