When talking about Havana, some words always come back : el malecon, el capitolo, la plaza de la revolucion, etc... and the legendary Bodeguita del Medio. What drives so many people in this tiny place which became one of Havana curiosities ?
Opened in 1942, La Bodeguita del Medio was originally a small supplies shop where men used to gather. As the number of clients grew, the owner enlarged the choice and offered the possibility to enjoy some drinks. The place became especially famous thanks to Ernest Hemingway who used to spend quite a little time there, drinking mojitos again and again. Other famous people such as Pablo Neruda came here and contributed to the reputation of the place. La Bodeguita del Medio is known as well for the quality of its mojitos and can be a nice stop during your visit of Old Havana.
La Bodeguita del Medio is located just few steps behind the cathedral and only two blocks from the famous and entertaining Calle Obispo. The Bodeguita del Medio can be easily found thanks to its light blue walls covered with graffitis and street art.
The Bodeguita del Medio is not only a bar but a restaurant where you can enjoy cuban and carribean style food. If you want to have diner in this institution, it is better to book a table. However, this is not the place I would choose to relax, the place is quite small, crowed, noisy and hot even though there are some fans.
