Plaza de Armas, Havana, Cuba

Plaza de Armas is the oldest place of Old Havana. Built in the XVIth century, the square was occupied by military men where they used to exercise, this is why this place was called Plaza de Armas. The place was quite neglected after the revolution but was restored to give its back its glory. On this square stands pretigious buildings around a nice garden and the place is very lively.

The most beautiful building is the Casa del Gobierno and Palacio Municipal. This edifice is built around a beautiful lush courtyard with columns and appearing stones.

Just in front of the Casa del Gobierno, you will end to the beautiful garden with its four fountains and Carlos Manuel de Céspedes statue done in 1955 by Sergio Lopez Mesa. Excepted on Sunday, the day we were, you will have the chance to see local people sending books and children in uniform. Otherwise, folkloric people will catch your eye !

Lots of other prestigious buildings to discover :

The place leads also to the Cuban Fortres, Castillo de la Real Fuerza, from where you can enjoy a nice view on the other coast.
