Cocktail time at the Hotel W Retreat Koh Samui, Thailand

The W Retreat Koh Samui in Thailand is for sure one the most photographed hotels in the world. On vacation on the island, I could obviously not miss this amazing property.

Situated on the north of the island, on Maenam beach, we decided to ride our scooter and enjoy a cocktail in their so well known lounge, the Woo Bar.

At the door, the staff will charge you a 600 baths entrance fee. To make sure not all tourists just come to admire the view I guess ! But be relieved, this is not a hotel fee. You will receive a voucher to be spent at the bar for the same value. Which is not a big deal when you take a look at the cocktail list !

     

     

Decoration and Art

Once you arrive in the hotel lobby, you will discover contemporary design elements.

Decoration is a savant mix of blue, wood and wickerwork. No doubt, you are on vacation on an exotic island.

Your eyes will then stop on the graffitti wall. I really had the impression to be in a cartoon ! This piece of art is the performance of the legendary Alec Monopoly. This New York street artist has also brought his creative work to the hotels W Bali and W Maldives. W hotels has always focused on show-casing upcoming designers and being "à l'avant-garde".

Cocktail time

Afterwards, you will take a seat in these cozy circles to admire the Woo Bar overlooking the Gulf of Thailand.

Palms, turquoise water, private villas, modern swimming pool, view on Koh Phanghan island, etc.... OMG, why are we not staying here ?! This will definitly be my next retreat when I will get back on this paradise island.

     

      

Let's talk about serious things, I am getting highly dehydrated. Time for cocktails ! Of course, my instinct guided me to a Mai Tai. But I was completly mistaking... This is not a thaï cocktail at all, this orange drink was actually invented in California ! Did you know Maita'i is a tahitian word meaning "the best" ? Now, I know why it is my favorite cocktail  !

Anyway, I'll share with you the recipe of this delicious beverage so you can enjoy it at home !

     

Mai Tai Cocktail :
.75 Oz fresh lime Juice
.25 Oz Rock candy syrup
.25 Oz Orgeat almond syrup
.5 Oz orange curaçao
.2 Oz Premium aged rum.
Then, all you need is a shaker and crushed ice. And maybe the same sexy attitude and dexterity as Tom Cruise in the 80's movie "Cocktail" !

Music :

Not only enjoying the view and these tasty drinks, we were also enjoying the sound. W luxury hotels are always bringing new DJ talents and rising artists. I litteraly found in love with this title from Dapayk & Padberg called "Island". The title of this soundtrack could not have matched better this delicious moment ! This remix is not that young  (is dated more or less from 2008) but seems to be timeless.

Unfortunatly, everything comes to an end. It is time for us to leave this luxurious and peaceful hotel.... but we will come back to France with delighful souvenirs. A memorable experience.
