Relaxing stay at Ella Jungle Resort, Sri Lanka

Ella is a town in Southern Sri Lanka where you can admire tea plantations, falls, moutains, in two words, endless nature. As green and breathtaking landscapes were the leitmotiv of staying in this area, we decided to go for a hotel where we could feel completly lost and connected with the Nature and 100 % relax. This is how we chose to stay at the Ella Jungle Resort.

Arriving in Ella Jungle Resort is something you deserve. The hotel is really lost in the nature and the epic access makes you feel that you are priviledged to stay in such a hidden place. First of all, a driver will wait for you with a jeep to go down to the valley. The ride will last approximatively 10 minutes crossing the forest and sometimes cows at nightime ! Afterwards, you will jump on a cable car to reach the hotel. The cable car is a funny way of transportation and offers an amazing view on the valley, the rice fields and the green landscape. The cable car opens around 7am and closes at 8pm. Therefore, you will have to organize your arrival/departure and day to make sure someone can welcome you and organize the journey from/to the hotel. However, you can contact the hotel and the staff directly and agree for extended hours (we had a train at 6am and had to leave the hotel at 4.30am and the team arranged everything). But do not ask to come back at 2am in the morning, this will not work !

Arrival and check in are down at the cable station, guests are welcomed with a cup of tea and kind of a sweet, very sweet !

You will be then guided to your room. Be careful, there are different kind of rooms that you have to choose depending on the level of confort you desire. You are in the Nature, in a place where water and food is not easy to carry. Confort is luxury and you have to pay for it. Cheapest rooms do not have their own bathrooms, you will have to share it with other guests. This is why we went for a Deluxe room with view on the river, and private bathroom.
Rooms, which a very large, are build in wooden luxury bungalows with a balcony offering an overlooking view on the river and the trees.
Sorry for the quality of the pics, but photos at night or with lots of shadow are never easy with a cell phone (our camera was out of order from the first day of the trip !)

The Ella Jungle Resort is vegetarian and does not serve alcool. Once you are warned, diner is served outside, around a fire, where you will have the opportunity to taste many vegeterian and Sri Lankan meals. Meals can be delicious or surprising, this is a question of taste !

Breakfast is served in another place, kind of a wooden and tropical shelter over the river. This is very relaxing and you cannot wait to start the day and explore further what the area has to offer.

Ella Jungle Resort offers also some free activities in the resort, such as kayaking. The staff is really helpful, warm and does always its maximum to reply positively to your requests.
