The Blue Mosque in Istanbul is one of the "Must Visit" site in Istanbul as it is very well located, walking distance from Sainte-Sophie Mosque and the indoors are stunning. However, the Blue Mosque started an important renovation program in 2017 and is still going on. 80% of the ceiling is covered with scaffholders and only the aisles of visible. This was the case in May 2019 and from what I read in Internet, it was still the case early 2020. Therefore, the visit is quite disapointing. A great alternative is the Süleymaniye Mosque, 2km away, which indoor architecture is quite similar, ceilings are sumptuous. Süleymaniye Mosque is in the same district of the Grand Bazaar, sourrounded by nice bar and cafés on the top of the hill, which offer you from their rooftop amazing views on Istanbul and Bosphorus river.
